ARK Brown Trout Spawning and redd (trout nest) spotting

Time: 9:30 am – 12:00 pm

Learn about wild brown trout spawning and nest identification. Advanced booking essential. Email anna@kennetandpang.org.

This event is for those in both the Kennet and Pang catchments:
  • Those interested in becoming a volunteer redd spotter
  • Riverfly monitors, so you can recognise redds and not harm them through riverflying over the winter months
  • Existing volunteer redd spotters to refresh your skills spotting and using the app
  • Volunteers wishing to learn about brown trout and their spawning season
The morning will be outdoors. We are kindly being hosted by the Chilton Estate; there will be an introduction to brown trout and their life cycle and how we log redds when redd spotting. This will be followed by a slow riverbank walk on the Kennet looking for and learning how to identify redds.
This event is part of our Partnerships4Nature project, funded by Defra’s Species Survival Fund and administered by The Heritage Lottery Fund. The P4N programme is led by North Wessex Downs National Landscape.
Although this morning is being held in Chilton Foliat, we are looking for volunteers to fill gaps in both the Kennet and Pang catchments.
